Hilton bid 2.0 POC for the Allies
    Hilton McManus winner
Ended T7 with Allies up 5.0 after the bid.

This game was a classic no fun ASW/U Boat affair. After a decent T1, where the Axis controlled the North Sea, the game became a contest of LBA against Italians and convoys waiting until the U boats could open up lanes again into the North and South Atlantic. This was not to be, and eventually the U boat arm was ground down until on T7 there were only 4 available, certainly not enough to deny control.

Thank you, Michael for the game.

    Daniel B (Thursday, 20 May 2021 23:34)

    Game #5
Allies: Andy Choptiany (bid 1.5 to get them)
    Axis: Daniel Blumentritt
    Winner: Andy
Status: Allies were up 8 POC after 6 turns. I surrendered in the middle of Turn 7 combat.

Turn 1 airstrikes were brutal! Ark Royal, Renown, Gneisenau, and Lutzow were sunk, Scharnhorst was disabled, and Hood took 3 damage. Six shots in the Barents, six results! The Allies won the battle, but there weren't a lot of surface losses after that. A few turns later, the Axis went in again to stop Convoy 1A and lost again and were down to just 5 German ships including GZ, making the odds for me pretty poor. Then my uboats failed to break the blockade and I had to go in for multiple long shots on Turn 7 - I surrendered after his round of fire when it became obvious this wasn't going to happen even if all my shots hit.

    Peter Shelling (Friday, 21 May 2021 01:44)

    Game #1
Pete Shelling (Axis) vs. Bruce Reiff (Allies)
Bruce bid 1.5 POC to play Allies.
    Pete wins
We were in the middle of Turn 5 - Bruce concedes
    4.5 Axis
    We had not played before.
U-boats had just sank a Convoy and would likely win the Barents to net +2 for the turn. Both sides had heavy surface losses, but my U-boats were strong enough to likely hold the lead as he was down 3 carriers early. Notable event : 38 damage points in surface combat German fleet vs. Ok. Revol (after aristrike had already put 3 damage on her.) A personal record for total damage to a single ship. Dice definitely favored Axis.

    Vince Meconi (Saturday, 22 May 2021 04:48)

    Game #13
Vince Meconi Allies, bidding 1.5; Bob Hamel Axis.
    Allies won by 2.5 POC.
The game went all 8 turns.
We have played many previous AREA matches.
Quite a game that went down to the last die roll in the last sea area on turn 8. Both fleets were very shot up entering turn 8 but the Axis still had all 7 U-boats. The Allies were ahead by 0.5 POC after 7. The Allies got greedy, opting for a pretty good chance of getting 10 VPs instead of an almost certain guarantee of 8 VPs. So, they didn't land convoy 3C in England but sent it on to the Barents, and then piled up their ASW in the Barents, leaving only 8 ASW each in the other 3 sea areas. The Axis split their U-boats between 2 areas and broke control in both; a disable or a sunk by the LBA in the Barents would have given the Axis the game by 0.5 POC. However, the LBA disabled the Ark Royal but missed the convoy.

    Dennis Nicholson (Monday, 24 May 2021 02:58)

    Game #8
Dennis Nicholson (Allies) vs John Sharp (Axis)
Allies got the bid for 2.
The Allies won when the Axis resigned on turn 6.
    We have played before.
The Game was won on turn 1 when the Germans lost
4 ships, including the Scharnhorst, on turn 1. Even
though they won the battle in the end they lost the war.
